Sectionals. Are. Amazing.

oooh, so many new and exciting things lately!

For starters, our garden is growing strong! Just check out our first lettuce harvest:

We planted butter crunch lettuce, romaine, and spinach, and its been growing like crazy. This harvest was like 2 weeks ago, and its already doubled the previous size…must get out there to harvest another crop!

Mother and son were both surprised! I had enough lettuce for salads every day of the week!

Pretty nice havin’ a garden. Our snow peas are comin in nicely, the tomatoes and peppers are sproutin..we’re like little mr. mcgregors over here. except no bunny killin’.

My new job has been wonderful. I just finished up my 4th week, and have learned most of the technical things with the computer system, etc, and from what I hear it will be a good few more weeks before I really get comfortable with it..but I’m just happy for the opportunity! It has been a blessing being offered the job, but moreso that it will be something that I really enjoy doing..so even better i guess :)

Lots of things going on with our house, too:

1) Our bathroom is complete, with the exception of the bare walls. Soon enough they should have some art on them

2)Our bedroom is complete, with the exception of finding a black dresser, maybe some window treatments?

3) The computer room is complete, or as complete as it will get for now, because it will be turned into the kitchen when we can afford it

4)The “dining” room is complete, because it really is just a couple feet in each direction and we just have the table..

5)The kitchen is complete, with the exception of some wall decor

So I guess our “main” rooms are 90% finished..just waiting for the finishing touches or odds and ends. I want to be super picky about what pictures we hang and the shelving we put on the walls because I don’t even want to think about filling holes and sanding and painting for a while now ;)

Some mayjah things we have to take care of in the near future are

1)getting the giant elm tree in our front yard cut down per the recent discovery of dutch elm disease..

2)getting quotes this week for building our two car garage

3)getting a quote for house siding

Lots of real spendy things going on, but things that have to get done fairly soon, so we will see how that all goes. I like when things are finally coming together, and our house has some sort of cohesive feel to it..its nice. Now I just want to find all the right pictures and frames and wall stuff to finish it off.

Our living room is coming together, too! We came across a wonderfully comfortable sectional, feel in love with it, came home, measured, got depressed because it would be too large for the room, stewed in our depression, went back, fell in love again, convinced charlie that we had to have it..then came to the conclusion that clearly, the only rational thing to do would be to knock down a wall so we could get the couch ;) And it worked!

Here was our useless half wall pre-demolition:

Charlie is scoping out the project specs.

Charlie is feelin out the materials, planning his first move.

Charlie decides to take the trim off first, then tackle the wall with father in law.

Can you see on the wall, where the closet door is? That was the original color of our whole living room/dining room–it was kind of a caramel-mocha color..really dark for the space. Love the new, bright, and airy color! It was a surprise to Charlie when one day, when I was working a 1-6:30pm shift, I managed to run to the paint store, pick out a nice color, speed home, and somehow paint the entire space before work. hehe. :)

And here is the wall, post-demolition, with some sheet rock my dads friend was kind enough to do. We puttied, sanded, and painted the wall, and it looks pretty good..from far away ;)

I definitely will give more credit to sheet rockers..whoa. Here is the wall pre-sanding and painting.

It is crazy how it opened up the room! It looks really nice, now the next project with that is picking out tile and redoing the little entry way area. Excited to get started with that!

Lets see, what else. Oh, the couch. So in love with it! So we ordered it and it took 6 weeks to deliver..6 very, very long weeks. You know, when a room is in sort of a transitional stage, where there are somethings in place but its just not complete..that was frustrating.  So, with the arrival of our wonderful, new sectional, here I am blogging from my new command center!:

Maybe you can’t tell from my face, but I’m super excited.

When the delivery guys came today, their first words were..”So where are ya puttin this BEAST?!”

I was getting a little nervous, of course, at that point..Had I been blinded by my complete infatuation with the couch that I convinced myself it would look just fine? I had I told myself a complete, and utterly EXPENSIVE lie?! I mean, if the couch had been too big we were pretty much SOL because there is no way it would fit through the basement doorway.

But. No worries. It fits and looks perfect!

You might have also noticed a new little friend we have on the couch. We’re doggie sittin this weekend for our friends, and were more than happy to have Miss Bella over. Ozzy and her have been going at it like crazy, but now they’re pooped and happy pups :)

When we left for some errands today I glanced back and saw these sad faces in the window..

Awwww!

Ok so, cleaning is on the agenda tomorrow, as well as figuring out our color palette for the basement tv room and bathroom, as well as the other bedrooms..exciting!

Wow, Ashley! Looks GREAT! We haven’t hung anything up on our walls…at all. Honestly, we’ll probably live here forever before anything goes up. ;) Wow. Your post made me so motiviated. I think I am going to sit on my butt, and watch the last season of Nip Tuck. Ha! Lettuce looks awesome…will definitely be getting some advice before I start my garden next year.
