Way back at 30 weeks preggo, I found Addie a “daycare.” It was an at home daycare, 10-14 kids, with a “helper.” It was on the way to my work, reasonably priced, and reviewed well; so we signed the papers. So happy to have that off my list! Daycare search was the most stressful aspect of the entire with-child experience.
Day 1 at daycare, and the problems started. I’ll spare all the details, but Addie’s diaper was changed ONE TIME in an 8 hour span, the daycare provider frequently left the helper in charge (looked less than 18..), Addie would miraculously take 4 hour naps (um, WHAT? not possible), and never ate out of the bottle. Needless to say, it was the worst place I could have ever imagined to leave my child. It was the worst feeling knowing that she was in that situation, and at her first few days there I struggled to understand if I was concerned legitimately or if I was a first time, overreacting mother. Trust your gut!
Now that Addie is with “Nanny Jen” as we so affectionately call her, I can’t imagine any other situation. After two LONG weeks at the previous daycare, we found a listing that N.J. put out looking for a kiddo to add to their home. Cloth diapering ok, attachment parenting techniques welcomed, lots of activities, and love. We met with Nanny Jen and felt so much relief knowing that Addie would be taken care of, but most importantly cared for. There is a difference! Any working mama knows how relieving it is to know you don’t have to worry.
Anyways, Nanny Jen has a bebe of her own, Carter, who is 14 months older than Addie. Jen tells me how infatuated Addie is with Carter—watching his every move, all day, every day. Here are some pictures of the two of them, since starting there in November.
Oh and..do these two look like siblings or WHAT?!
Jen sent me another email and pictures recently. I guess, since Addie has been there, Carter has usually been playing next to her versus “with” her. Well this past week Addie came down with a horrible cough and wasn’t herself for most of the week—minimal playing, maximum fussing, and even had to skip a day playing with Carter. I think maybe the absence made his heart grow fonder, as Jen said the next day he was giving her hugs all day long. He started showing her how to move toys (trains, etc) and make sounds, and took his bucket of little people and animals and handed them to Addie one by one—which was met by a huge smile, every time, from Addie.
So thankful Addie is in such good hands.
It truly makes a difference. Convience + low cost does not mean anything if you are not worry-free. We pay a little more and we each double our commute, but it is SO worth it to have him with our friend.
Addie is sure growin up!
What a cutie.
Does she want to come to a birthday party this summer? (Just a small one for our fams.
{Mack wanted to know.}
They are so cute together; I can’t wait to see how their relationship progresses as they grow up!
I think we are going to be in trouble as they get older!
We absolutely LOVE having Addie here and are so glad that it’s working out for you as well! She is a joy!
julie, so very true! Addie would be elated to watch mack attack celebrate his big 0-1!
jen, youre right..trouble is on the horizon! haha!
Seriously – long lost siblings – twins! ;0)
Addie is so sweet + smiley! Can she come rub off on Finley a little bit? (sorry Fins, you’re like your Mama). ;0) Gotta start planning a date for summer-aro-girls-weekend! (+ Mack)
So young to be flirting Addie. You and your friend seem to get along so well. You look so happy being there & of course cute.
Somehow I missed this one. Must be GFC following which will be gone on Thursday. Anyhoo, it is a good feeling to leave your babe where you feel confortable and you know they are happy. Priceless, in fact.
Addie looks very happy (and adorable) at her Nanny Jen’s.
